THE SPIRIT OF PI ALPHA OMEGA!

I am delighted to bring you greetings on behalf of the members of the Pi Alpha Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®. We are rooted in the powerful legacy of 30 incredible visionaries who changed the landscape of metro Atlanta when they sought to charter the Chapter on September 21, 1985.

Guided by a spirit of service and fueled by the bonds of sisterhood,  in 1985 these 30 remarkable women embarked on an ambitious plan to financially support students attending Historically Black Colleges and Universities, provide mentorship to teen mothers, collaborate with a local hospital to support the needs of its most vulnerable patients, and partner with the Atlanta Public School system to provide book scholarships and culturally-relevant programming to students.

Today, that spirit of service and depth of commitment to the metro Atlanta community remains steadfast. Forty years after its chartering, Pi Alpha Omega has evolved into a Chapter of 400+ college-educated women who continue to significantly impact the communities we serve. In addition to implementing our International Program Targets under the leadership of our International President and CEO, Ms. Danette Anthony Reed, we have also:

  • Signed Memorandums of Understanding with four community partners (Atlanta Public Schools, Habitat for Humanity, Atlanta Metropolitan State College, Cascade Nature Springs Preserve) and donated more than $15,000 to support their efforts
  • Recognized 50+ high school seniors attending Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and awarded $20,000+ in scholarships
  • Hosted a community forum highlighting the History, Entrepreneurship, Advocacy, and Resiliency of Historically Black Colleges and Universities
  • Partnered with the League of Women Voters, Atlanta-Fulton County, to host Candidate Forums for all Districts throughout the County
  • Led a Metro-Atlanta service project at Morris Brown College
  • Hosted the first-ever hybrid Metro-Atlanta Founders' Day program at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, and awarded $10,000 in scholarships to college students
  • Hosted a community screening and panel discussion of the Farming While Black documentary, featuring producer Lynn Waymer
  • Hosted a community fireside chat and book signing with Dr. Key Hallmon, a renowned author who educates and inspires African Americans to create generational health and wealth
  • Sponsored an Atlanta Habitat Build in support of  a black woman and her family, becoming the FIRST black Greek-lettered organization to do so

We invite you to learn more about our HERstory and programs of service as you explore our website, and we look forward to you supporting our efforts to be of "Service to all Mankind."

In the Spirit of Sisterhood,

Erika Walker-Cash, President
